Trains to halt on German railways

In a statement from the GDL, it was announced that train drivers working for German Railways will go on a 2-day warning strike to pressure employers for better wages against inflation.

The statement noted that the work stoppage will begin for freight trains on January 9 at 18:00 local time, and for passenger trains on January 10 at 02:00, with the strike ending on January 12 at 18:00.

The statement recalled that the GDL had announced plans for a strike lasting several days in the new year following the Christmas holiday, and stated that German Railways did not make an offer to stop the strike during the Christmas break.

RAILWAYS ANNOUNCED IT WILL TRY TO STOP THE STRIKE

German Railways, on the other hand, announced that it would apply to the court to try to stop the strike in question.

German Railways drivers went on a 24-hour nationwide warning strike on December 7 after collective bargaining negotiations failed.

Drivers affiliated with the GDL had previously held a 20-hour strike on November 15-16.

The union is demanding a monthly salary increase of 555 euros for employees at railway companies, primarily train drivers, and a one-time payment of up to 3,000 euros to combat inflation.

The GDL is also demanding that the working hours of shift workers be reduced from 38 to 35 hours per week without any reduction in wages.
