Transit rights for two countries from Iran: Critical development in the Strait of Hormuz
Ibrahim Azizi, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, announced that Russia and China will be granted special privileges for transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
A new era is beginning regarding the Strait of Hormuz, one of Iran's most strategic points from a geopolitical perspective. Ibrahim Azizi, a high-ranking official responsible for security in the Iranian Parliament, stated in an interview with the Russia-based RIA news agency that Russia and China will have priority and favorable conditions for their passage through the strait.
Pointing out that the Strait of Hormuz is within Iran's territorial waters and holds a very important place for the country, Azizi said, "The Strait of Hormuz is part of our territorial waters and our geography. Therefore, Iran has the right to make any decision it deems appropriate regarding the strait. No one can question this right."
Noting that Russia and China have always been important partners in Iran's foreign policy, Azizi added, "States of strategic importance to us, including China and Russia, will receive special treatment regarding the Strait of Hormuz and will continue to benefit from favorable conditions."
On the other hand, during his remarks, Azizi also touched upon the issue of removing enriched uranium used in nuclear activities from Iran. Azizi stated that this matter is not on the agenda of the ongoing negotiations with the US.
