'Trash war' continues between North Korea and South Korea

The South Korean military announced that North Korea has once again sent balloons believed to contain "trash."

According to a report by Yonhap, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the balloons detected in the sky could drift toward southern regions due to the wind.

In the statement, the public was advised not to touch the balloons sent by the North that are believed to contain "trash" and to report them to the police.

TRASH BALLOON TENSION

South Korea had reported on May 29 that North Korea had sent more than 150 balloons containing "trash."

Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, had described the sending of these balloons as "freedom of expression."

Following this, South Korea condemned the North's sending of the balloons and Kim Yo-jong's characterization of the incident as "freedom of expression."

South Korea reported on June 2 that North Korea had sent approximately 720 more balloons containing "trash."

On June 4, President Yoon Suk Yeol suspended the Inter-Korean Agreement, signed in 2018 with the aim of reducing military tensions, in response to North Korea's sending of balloons containing "trash."
