Trial begins for Syrian woman murdered in the Netherlands: Killer sends letter from Turkey

18-year-old Syrian refugee Ryan Al Najjar, who lived in the Netherlands, was murdered because she 'did not wear a headscarf and had a boyfriend.' As a result of the police investigation, it was determined that the murder was committed by 'family decision.'
Father Halid Al Najjar sent a letter from Turkey to Dutch media, confessing that he committed the murder himself.
In the police investigation regarding the murder, it was understood that Najjar was killed by 'family decision.' Halid Al Najjar, who is wanted as a suspect, did not attend the court hearing.
During the investigation into the murder of the 18-year-old young woman, Dutch police reported that violent incidents occurring due to 'family honor' are increasingly on the rise. The police also stated that Syrians are at the forefront of these violent incidents.
The lifeless body of Syrian refugee Ryan Al Najjar, who lived in the town of Joure in the north of the Netherlands, was found in a water canal on May 28.
Najjar was murdered two days after her birthday.
The Syrian refugee's two brothers, Mohanad and Muhammed, aged 24 and 22, were arrested as part of the investigation. If the court decides that the murder was committed by 'family decision,' the brothers could face prison sentences.
According to court records, Ryan had reported in a meeting with Protection and Security Center staff that 'her parents were constantly forcing her to wear a headscarf and wanted to marry her off to someone she did not want.'
'SHE WAS ACTING TOO WESTERN'
Father Halid Al Najjar confessed in the letter he sent from Turkey that he killed his daughter because she was 'acting too Western.' The killer father claimed that no one other than himself was responsible for the murder.
In his letter, Najjar said he was 'very angry that his daughter had started living like a Westerner.'
The letter from Halid Al Najjar, who is currently in Turkey, shows that he blames his daughter for the murder he committed.
