• Is there a possibility that you will face a risk to your life safety upon returning to your country?

In accordance with the relevant instruction, answering "yes" to these questions can lead to the application being immediately viewed as suspicious and subsequently rejected. Consular officers evaluate the responses received from applicants specifically to identify potential asylum seekers. For this reason, it is important for individuals applying for visas for education, work, tourism, or family visits in America to clearly answer "no" to these two questions. Otherwise, their visa requests may be rejected immediately, with the rejection reason citing concerns related to asylum claims.

The background of this change aims to prevent the abuse of visa categories. Officials state that this type of practice has been implemented to close security loopholes in the system and prevent the illegal entry of immigrants into America. However, another issue being debated by experts is that this practice could make the situation more difficult for individuals who are truly in need of protection.

Prior to these changes, in January 2026, America had temporarily suspended immigrant visa processing covering 75 countries. Furthermore, during previous administrations, security checks for student visa applications were tightened, and application processes were extended. With these newly adopted measures, while the evaluation periods for applications may increase, any false statement or answer that raises suspicion significantly reduces the chances of obtaining a visa.

It is of great importance for applicants to be well-prepared for consular interviews, to learn the details of the process, and to provide clear, accurate, and cautious answers to the questions asked.
