Trump administration proposes $163 billion in cuts

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has moved to add another round of cuts to its agenda by laying off federal employees and dismantling U.S. government agencies.

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has released a budget draft that envisions $163 billion in federal spending cuts for the coming year.

In a statement issued by the OMB, it was noted that under the proposed budget, defense spending would increase by 13 percent compared to the levels that took effect in 2025, while domestic security spending would rise by nearly 65 percent.

It was also reported that non-defense discretionary spending would be reduced by 23 percent, falling to its lowest level since 2017.

OMB Director Russ Vought stated, "At this critical moment, we need a historic budget that will stop funding our own decline, put Americans first, and provide unprecedented support for our military and domestic security."
