Trump announces: Change in the start date for US customs tariffs

US President Donald Trump and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick confirmed that the implementation date for new customs tariffs has been changed from July 9 to August 1. Trump confirmed this change with the statement, "The tariffs go into effect on August 1. However, the president is currently determining the rates and agreements."

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent also stated on CNN's "State of the Union" program that the tariffs announced in March would go into effect on August 1 for countries that have not yet reached an agreement with the US. Bessent warned that if no progress is made in the negotiations, the tariffs would return to the high levels of April 2 "like a boomerang."
