Trump announces he has accepted a two-week ceasefire

US President Donald Trump shared the following in a post on his social media account:

"Based on my discussions with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munir, and their request that I stop the devastating force to be sent to Iran tonight, and on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the COMPLETELY, IMMEDIATELY, and SAFELY opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for a period of two weeks.

This will be a two-sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for this is that we have already achieved and even exceeded all military objectives, and we are very close to a definitive Agreement on long-term PEACE with Iran and PEACE in the Middle East.

We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and we believe this is a viable basis for negotiation.

Almost all of the various points of contention from the past have been settled between the US and Iran, but a two-week period will allow for the finalization and completion of the agreement.

In my capacity as President of the United States, and also representing the countries of the Middle East, I am honored that this long-standing problem is nearing a resolution."
