Trump announces he will speak with Putin on Tuesday: Ukrainian territory to be discussed

US President Donald Trump has announced that he will speak with Putin on Tuesday in an effort to end the war in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters while traveling from Florida to Washington on Sunday evening, Trump stated that the conversation would concern the 'division of certain assets.' The US President added that intensive work had been carried out throughout the weekend and that efforts to end the war were ongoing.

Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East and Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, recently visited Moscow to advance negotiations. In a statement on Sunday, Witkoff indicated that a phone call between Trump and Putin could take place soon. Trump, who reported that he would hold a phone call with Putin on Tuesday, emphasized that land sharing would be on the table as part of the negotiations to end the war.

Stating that topics such as land and power plants would be discussed during the meeting, Trump noted the following:

''We'll see if we have anything to announce by Tuesday. I will speak with President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work was done over the weekend. We want to see if we can end this war. We will talk about land. We will talk about power plants.''

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that they are ready for a ceasefire. Zelenskyy underscored that they are not against peace talks with Russia, provided that European countries, including Turkey, also participate.

'WILL UKRAINE USE THE CEASEFIRE TO REARM?'

Putin made statements over the weekend regarding the US proposal for a ceasefire with Ukraine. Speaking at a press conference held at the Kremlin with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin stated that he supports Washington's proposal in principle but that certain conditions must be met.

According to an Associated Press (AP) report, the Russian leader emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict, stating that Ukraine must not rearm and must avoid mandatory mobilization. Putin expressed that the West should stop its military support to Kyiv during the 30-day ceasefire period.

Putin claimed that Ukraine is requesting a ceasefire due to the current situation on the battlefield. Stating that Russian forces are making progress, Putin said that the offensives launched by Kyiv last year have been neutralized and that the Kursk region has been largely brought under control.

Expressing his doubts about how the 30-day ceasefire would be utilized, Putin stated:

''Will this time be used for Ukraine to continue mandatory mobilization and for the West to supply weapons to Kyiv? We need to discuss this issue with our American partners. Perhaps we can have a phone call with Donald Trump.''

RUSSIA CONFIRMS THE CALL

The Kremlin confirmed the Putin-Trump call for Tuesday. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that Putin will speak with Trump by phone on Tuesday.

Responding to a question about the planned meeting, Peskov said, 'Yes, that is correct. Such a conversation is planned for Tuesday.'

Peskov did not provide any comment regarding the content of the call. While Trump claimed on February 12 that he had spoken with Putin, the Moscow administration confirmed Trump's words a week later.
