Trump case against former FBI Director

Federal prosecutors within the U.S. Department of Justice have initiated legal action regarding a photo posted by James Comey on social media in May 2025, which featured seashells arranged to spell "86 47." The indictment noted that this post could be interpreted in a way that "a reasonable person might think it implies harm will be done to the President of the United States."

Although Comey deleted the post, which had become a matter of public concern due to the investigation, the photo spread rapidly and became the center of controversy. While some circles suggested that the "86 47" inscription made with seashells could be perceived as a threat by the former FBI Director against Trump, intense public debate ensued.

According to claims by teams close to the U.S. Presidency, the term "86" is colloquially used to mean "to get rid of someone or something," while "47" refers to Trump, who holds the title of the 47th President of the United States. These allegations of a hidden message formed the basis of the charges.

Comey has been accused of calling for the assassination of Trump due to the post. Comey, who was questioned by the U.S. Secret Service, denied the accusations leveled against him. In a video released on his own social media account, he stated, "I do not want to be associated with any form of violence. I am innocent, and I have full faith in the independent judiciary."

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, in a press conference, responded to a question regarding how the prosecution would prove that Comey threatened Trump with the post in question by stating that the process would be carried out with the documents and witnesses they have, but that they would not share details about the evidence at this stage.

Donald Trump, in a statement on his social media account following the allegations, said, "He knew exactly what it meant. Even a child would know. If you are an FBI director and you don't know the meaning of this, it means assassination."

While fierce debates have erupted in the U.S. public sphere following the accusations, the incident continues to remain on the agenda with its legal dimensions and political implications.
