Trump files $10 billion lawsuit against network that hosted Harris
U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News over the "60 Minutes" program where his opponent, Kamala Harris, gave an interview.
Donald Trump, the Republican Party's presidential candidate and former U.S. President, has filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against CBS News, accusing the network of deceptively editing an interview with his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, on the "60 Minutes" program.
In a statement released by CBS News, the network described the lawsuit filed by Trump as completely meritless and stated that they would fight the allegations to the end.
In the lawsuit petition filed by Trump's lawyers in a federal court in the Amarillo division of Texas, it was alleged that CBS "crossed the line by engaging in deceptive manipulation" in order to "cover up Harris's weakness of word salad."
The petition argued that the editing of the original CBS recording was done "intentionally" to "assist his opponent and mislead the public," and that this unfairly disadvantaged Trump.
The lawsuit, which claims that millions of Americans, including Texas residents, were misled and confused by two different versions of the edited interview, demands $10 billion in damages for the harm caused to Trump.
"NO EDITORIAL MANIPULATION WAS MADE TO THE RECORDINGS"
In its statement, CBS News noted that Trump's claims were entirely meritless, stating, "The former president's accusations against the 60 Minutes program are not true, and as alleged, no editorial manipulation was made to the recordings."
The statement emphasized that CBS would mount a vigorous defense against the lawsuit, noting that the questions asked and the answers given in the interview with Harris were the same, and that the editing into two separate "short and long" versions was done to comply with time constraints in different programs.
