Trump: I could come to Turkey to meet with the Iranian President

As conflicts between Israel and Iran continue to intensify, the question of what action US President Donald Trump will take remains a subject of curiosity.

According to a report by the US-based news site Axios, citing three officials, Trump and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan engaged in intense diplomacy this week to organize a diplomatic meeting between US and Iranian officials in Istanbul.

"ERDOĞAN CALLED TRUMP"

According to sources, Erdoğan called Trump during the G7 Summit held last week and proposed that a meeting be held between the parties in Istanbul the following day. Trump, who viewed the proposal favorably, stated that if a chance for a deal arose, he could send Vice President James David Vance and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to Turkey, and that he was even prepared to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian himself.

"IRANIANS INFORMED TURKISH OFFICIALS THAT KHAMENEI'S APPROVAL COULD NOT BE OBTAINED"

Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conveyed this proposal to Pezeshkian and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. However, according to two US officials, Iranian authorities tried to reach Khamenei to obtain his approval, but were unable to contact him as he was in hiding due to fears of assassination. The Iranians informed Turkish officials that Khamenei's approval could not be obtained, and thus the meeting attempt was officially canceled.

IRANIAN MEDIA ALSO REPORTED IT

Iranian media reported the news with the statement: "Trump informed Erdoğan that his Vice President J.D. Vance, his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and even he himself are ready to come to Turkey to meet with the Iranian President."
