Trump nominates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secretary of Health
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he is nominating Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his anti-vaccine stance, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Trump has continued to announce appointments for the cabinet he will form for his new term.
In a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote, "I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS)."
Stating that Americans have long been "crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies that have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation" regarding health, Trump emphasized his belief that Kennedy would solve these problems.
Trump included the statement, "HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody in this country will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming health crisis in this country."
If confirmed by the Senate, Kennedy will begin his work as Secretary of Health in the new term.
The former Democrat, Kennedy, entered this year's presidential race as an independent before announcing after some time that he was withdrawing his candidacy in favor of Trump.
Kennedy, who frequently appeared at Trump's rallies to great applause, is also known as a lawyer for the lawsuits he has filed against major pesticide and pharmaceutical companies, his skeptical approach to COVID-19 vaccines, and his efforts regarding food safety regulations.
