Trump–Putin summit uncertainty: Meeting may be postponed

It has been claimed that the meeting planned between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest may be postponed. Sources speaking to CNN reported that the planned meeting has entered a period of uncertainty.

MEETING DATE HAS NOT BEEN CLARIFIED

Sources speaking to CNN stated that some hitches have emerged between the parties while preparations for the meeting were ongoing. Another source close to the matter noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have experienced disagreements regarding their approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis.

DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN RUBIO AND LAVROV

According to the sources, due to these disagreements, it is claimed that it is unlikely that Rubio will "recommend" that the Putin–Trump meeting be held next week. It was also suggested that the two foreign ministers might hold another phone call later this week.

TRUMP AND PUTIN SPOKE FOR 2.5 HOURS ON THE PHONE

US President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone on October 16. During the meeting, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours, the war in Ukraine and potential peace steps were discussed.

A DATE HAD BEEN GIVEN FOR THE SUMMIT A FEW DAYS AGO

Following the aforementioned phone call, Trump announced in a statement that a meeting would be held at the "High-Level Advisors" level with the participation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and that he would meet with Putin face-to-face in Budapest following this meeting.

In his statement, Trump had also indicated that the summit with Putin could take place "within two weeks."
