Trump says 'we are very close to a deal' in Gaza
US President Donald Trump stated regarding the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, "I can say that we are very close to a deal. I think we have a chance, if not this week, then maybe next week."
US President Donald Trump met with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in the State Dining Room of the White House.
Responding to reporters' questions during the meeting, President Trump said that his recent discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu centered on the Gaza Strip.
Trump said, "There is nothing definitive regarding Gaza and all the other issues we are working very hard on, but the probability of reaching an agreement, some kind of settlement, is very high." Trump noted that intensive diplomatic contacts are continuing for a comprehensive solution.
"IF NOT THIS WEEK, MAYBE NEXT WEEK"
Stating that a ceasefire agreement that could end the conflict between Israel and Hamas is near, Donald Trump said, "I can probably tell you that we are very close to a deal. I think we have a chance, if not this week, then maybe next week."
"IT COULD BECOME MORE COMPLICATED IF A SOLUTION IS NOT REACHED"
Trump further emphasized that their priorities are clear, stating, "I don't know if it's secret or not, but it doesn't matter to me. Secrets are fine if they get us what we want. We want a ceasefire, we want peace. We want the hostages back. And I think we are close to achieving that." While expressing that there is no clear agreement yet despite expectations and that the process still contains uncertainties, Trump added, "If a solution is not reached by next week, the process could become even more complicated."
