Trump signals nuclear deal
US President Donald Trump stated that significant steps have been taken in the ongoing negotiations with Iran to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons, while noting that the option of military intervention remains on the table should the agreement fall through.
US President Donald Trump made striking remarks about the ongoing negotiations with Iran in an interview with the American press. Trump stated that Iran has committed to not producing nuclear weapons and that this guarantee has been added to the new draft agreement as a clause.
Emphasizing that an agreement has been reached on the destruction of existing enriched uranium in the event of a consensus with Iran, Trump said, "In this process, the oversight will be entirely in our hands. Whether the uranium is found where it is or moved to another location, we will eliminate it."
President Trump underscored that if the deal on the table is not accepted, other paths will be pursued, stating, "The alternative path will not be pleasant at all." He specifically emphasized that if Iran does not comply with the agreement, the enriched uranium in their possession would be intervened in "if necessary, with military methods and in a very decisive manner."
Trump noted that additional assurance clauses are being worked on to prevent Iran from violating any agreement, and used the words, "The Iranians are strong and proud people. However, they will have to do some things they do not want to do."
Claiming that economic pressures on Iran continue and that the Tehran administration is losing hundreds of millions of dollars every day due to a naval blockade, Trump highlighted that the Iranian economy is on the verge of a severe collapse: "I think the costs Iran will bear have reached an unsustainable point; because their economy is collapsing," he said.
Evaluating the presence of the US military in the region, Trump stated that even if a ceasefire is reached, the withdrawal of American troops from the region is not on the agenda at this stage.
When asked by a journalist about the health status of Mojtaba Khamenei, who was referred to as the religious leader of Iran, Trump replied, "I don't want to share where he is, but it is very likely that I will find out. He is very seriously wounded."
On the other hand, Trump claimed that the Iranian military has been largely neutralized, stating that only 21-22 percent of their missiles remain compared to before the war.
President Trump stated that a new agreement in the negotiations does not cover Lebanon in the short term, and added that frozen Iranian assets will not be released before an agreement is reached.
