Trump targets his rival Biden
Former US President Donald Trump argued that if he is not granted judicial immunity, current President Joe Biden should also be prosecuted.
Trump evaluated the issue one day before the appeals court hearing, which begins tomorrow, regarding whether he can be prosecuted for his role in the Capitol riot.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump argued that as a former US president, he should have judicial immunity and that he did nothing wrong, stating, "Of course I am entitled to immunity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the United States. I was not campaigning (during the January 6 process), the election was already over. I was investigating whether there was election fraud, which is my duty."
Noting that he should have judicial immunity for these actions taken as president, Trump said, "If I don't have immunity, then Crooked Joe Biden shouldn't have immunity either."
There are a total of 4 different legal cases ongoing against former US President Trump, two at the federal level and two at the state level. One of these addresses Trump's role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and whether, due to this role, Trump can continue his political career.
Donald Trump's lawyers argue that the speeches and political actions their client took while serving as president fall under freedom of speech and are covered by immunity.
