Former US President Donald Trump targeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a speech at an event. While stating that Ukraine receives very high amounts of financial aid from the US, Trump argued that the US should provide loans to Ukraine rather than financial aid.
At a campaign rally held in Vandalia, Ohio, on Saturday, Trump said, "We should lend them the money, not send them the money, so if they make it, they pay us back... Lend them the money, don't just hand them a check for 60 billion dollars."
In his speech, Trump also targeted Zelensky, saying, "I tell you, Zelensky is one of the greatest salesmen in history. Every time he comes to the country, he walks away with 50 or 60 billion dollars. I've never been able to do that. He's a much better salesman than I am."
Since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022, Washington has become Kyiv's primary supporter, providing approximately 113 billion dollars in military, economic, and humanitarian aid.
