Trump: We are giving them five days, then we will see

U.S. President Donald Trump made statements regarding a potential war with Iran during a meeting on crime prevention in Memphis, Tennessee. Speaking about Iran, Trump said that talks had been held with Iran over the last two days, adding, "For this reason, I have instructed the Department of Defense to temporarily postpone strike plans against major energy and electrical infrastructure targets in Iran to see if a more comprehensive agreement can be reached."

Stating that these are facilities worth billions of dollars and that one of the missiles the U.S. would launch could destroy them, Trump said, "We have had very good talks. Really very good talks. As someone who has spent their life in negotiations, I say this: we have been talking to Iran for a long time, but this time I see they are serious. The only reason for this is that our military has done a tremendous job. That is why they are serious and want to make a deal. I hope we will achieve this," he said.

Saying that even if there is no deal, they will ensure Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons, Trump stated, "They cannot have nuclear weapons. If we had allowed the nuclear deal from the Obama era to continue, they would have nuclear weapons today. If that deal had remained in effect, we would be in a situation 2, 3, or 4 years ago that no one would want to be in. We will not allow this," he said.

Arguing that the U.S. military and its partners have largely destroyed Iran's military capacity over the last three weeks, Trump said, "We have largely destroyed their ballistic missile and drone programs. We have neutralized more than 90 percent of their launch systems. An intervention at this level has never been seen before," he said.

Trump claimed that Iran has very few systems left and is now almost unable to launch anything. Stating that Iran's navy has also been destroyed, Trump said, "They had 158 ships. I even asked my team, 'Why didn't we capture their ships, were they good ships?' They said, 'They were very good, sir.' I asked, 'Then why didn't we capture them?' They told me, 'It's more fun to send them to the bottom of the sea.' So their navy is gone," he expressed.

"No one wants to be a leader anymore"

Stating that they have also eliminated Iran's leadership cadre, Trump said, "The first leadership cadre is gone. Then they gathered 88 people to elect a new leader, and they were also eliminated. Now they are gathering again, but no one wants to be a leader. Iran's leadership has become one of the rare political positions in the world that no one wants. It is a dangerous job. My job is also dangerous, but theirs is more dangerous," he expressed.

Stating that they have eliminated Iran's capacity to threaten the U.S., Trump said, "For decades, Iran refused to give up its nuclear goals. In recent months, their own negotiators were boasting to our representatives that they had enough material to make nuclear weapons. This was supposedly meant to be a deterrent for me, but on the contrary, it made me even more determined. It increased the importance of this mission and made us move faster. Iran's missile capacity was also growing very fast. If they had reached that point, it would have been almost impossible to stop. You saw this when they started taking some of this out on their neighbors. These attacks surprised me, they surprised everyone. The attacks backfired and turned their neighbors against them as well," he said.

Trump said, "Now Iran has one last chance to end its threats against the U.S. and its allies. We hope they take advantage of it. In any case, the U.S. and the world will be a much safer place. The planet will become a much more secure place," he expressed.

Explaining that he called Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine during a period when the economy was doing very well and breaking records, and told them there was a problem in the Middle East they needed to deal with, Trump claimed that they preferred to take a break from new records in the economy and eliminate a major problem. Trump said, "Pete (Hegseth), I think you were the first to speak. You said, 'We have to do this, because we cannot allow them to have nuclear weapons,'" he expressed.

Trump said the deal would be good for both their allies in the Middle East and Israel. U.S. President Trump said, "That is why we are giving them 5 days. Then we will see.
