Trump: We have made significant progress in talks with Russia and Ukraine

U.S. President Trump evaluated the agenda on several foreign policy topics, from the Russia-Ukraine issue to the Middle East, during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office.

Stating that talks with the Russian and Ukrainian sides are ongoing and that they have made significant progress, Trump said, "We have made significant progress in talks with Russia and Ukraine over the last two days. Ukraine wants to make a deal because I don't think they have any other options. I think Russia wants to make a deal, too."

The U.S. President also noted that he would soon make a decision regarding whether there will be any changes to the temporary legal status of approximately 240,000 Ukrainian immigrants in the country.

TRUMP'S NATO REMARKS

On the other hand, Trump argued that as the U.S., they pay too much to NATO, while other countries' expenditures remain below what they should be.

Trump stated, "I said if you don't pay, we won't defend you. I said that 7 years ago, and because of that, they paid hundreds of millions of dollars. They asked, if we were in debt, would you defend us? I said no, I wouldn't."

"I see NATO as potentially good, but this payment situation in NATO is very unfair," said Trump, arguing that while some countries cover their own defense costs, they are being "ripped off" by these same countries in trade.

"WE ARE TALKING TO HAMAS"

Evaluating reports that direct talks are being held between the U.S. and Hamas, Trump said, "We are having talks with Hamas. We are helping Israel in these talks. We are not giving (Hamas) cash."

Arguing that Hamas should not govern Gaza, Trump stated that all hostages held by Hamas must be released.

"I WILL GO TO SAUDI ARABIA"

Meanwhile, Trump said that relations between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia are very good and that he would go to Saudi Arabia if the country invests enough in American companies.

Trump said, "I told them if you buy $1 trillion worth from American companies within 4 years, I will go. They agreed to do that, so I will go there. I have a great relationship with them. They are going to spend a lot of money on American companies to buy military equipment."

EMPHASIS ON NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT

The U.S. President noted that there are too many nuclear weapons in the world, including in countries like Russia and China as well as their own, and emphasized that it would be very good for all countries to be rid of nuclear weapons.

Trump said, "It would be great if we could all get rid of nuclear weapons, because the power of nuclear weapons is crazy. I would like to start nuclear disarmament talks."
