Trump: We will do everything in our power for Syria

U.S. President Donald Trump spoke at the White House during the ceremony for the appointment of Sergio Gor as Ambassador to India. Following the ceremony held in the Oval Office, Trump made statements touching upon both domestic politics and foreign policy.

Responding to questions from members of the press, Trump evaluated many topics ranging from contacts with Syria to ending the government shutdown. Regarding Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara, whom he hosted at the White House today, U.S. President Trump said, "He is a very strong leader. He comes from a tough place and he is a tough guy.

I liked him, I get along with him well," he stated. Highlighting Syria's reconstruction and its contribution to regional peace, Trump said, "We will do everything in our power to make Syria successful, because it is a part of the Middle East. There is peace in the Middle East right now. It hasn't been like this for as long as anyone can remember," he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump also praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating, "Shara gets along very well with President Erdoğan. Erdoğan is a great leader and he largely supports what is happening in Syria," he said.

"WE ARE WORKING FOR SYRIA-ISRAEL DIALOGUE"

Stating that a new diplomatic process is underway between Syria and Israel, Trump said, "We are working with Israel to reach an agreement with Syria. Syria is an important part of the Middle East. I believe Shara will rebuild his country," he said. Trump also noted that the exchange of the bodies of hostages who lost their lives during the negotiations with Hamas is ongoing, adding, "This is a difficult issue, but we have achieved peace in the Middle East. No one has seen anything like this before," he said.

"GOVERNMENT WILL REOPEN VERY SOON"

When asked about the agreement prepared to end the government shutdown on Capitol Hill, U.S. President Trump replied, "Yes, I will abide by the agreement. We will open our country." Emphasizing that there will be a rapid recovery in the economy after the shutdown ends, Trump said, "This deal is very good. The shutdown process was bad for our country, but now we will open our country very quickly. We received enough support from the Democrats," he said. Trump stated that areas where public services are disrupted will normalize in a short time.

In his statements regarding the economy, Trump defended his foreign trade policy, saying, "With the tremendous revenue we generate from tariffs, 2,000-dollar payments will be made to our low- and middle-income citizens. We will use the remaining revenue to reduce the national debt." U.S. President Trump shared economic data, saying, "This is a national security issue. Reducing our debt is protecting our country's future. We currently have over 18 trillion dollars in investment inflows. By the end of the year, this figure will exceed 20 trillion dollars."

"WE ARE COMPLETELY RENOVATING"

Touching upon the fact that domestic infrastructure reforms will also change with the reopening of the government, Trump said, "We are equipping our country's air traffic control system with the world's most advanced technology. Billions of dollars were spent, but the system was not working. Now we are building the best system in the world." Criticizing former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Trump said, "Billions were spent at that time, but no results were achieved. Now we will have the world's most advanced air control system."

Responding to criticisms in domestic politics, Trump said, "A president cannot only deal with local issues. The world might be burning. The president must look after the world. If I were not president, we could have been dragged into World War III today. I have ended eight wars, and the ninth is on the way," he said.
