Trump's 4 candidates emerge for Fed Chair

Speaking with media members during the 56th World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, US Treasury Secretary Bessent made statements regarding the process of determining candidates for the Fed chair. Bessent stated that they are nearing the end of the evaluations for the new chair and that "four wonderful names" are on the agenda. "This will be the President's decision, and my guess is that an announcement regarding the matter will be made next week," Bessent said.

Additionally, US policies regarding Greenland and trade relations with Europe were also on the agenda. Stating that the issue of how European officials will react to Trump's Greenland tariffs is being discussed, Bessent expressed his belief that a solution prioritizing national security will be brought to this matter. "In this discussion that started 48 hours ago, I am confident that the leaders will not escalate the issue and that a positive outcome will be reached for everyone," he said.

Emphasizing that relations between the US and Europe are strong, Bessent noted that the closeness between the two sides is greater than ever. When asked about expectations for long-term trade tensions, he replied, "Why are you thinking about the worst-case scenario? Take a deep breath."

It is known that the term of the current Fed Chair Jerome Powell will end in May 2026, and the names emerging for the chair in the new term are experienced actors in the world of finance and economics. These names are listed as BlackRock executive Rick Rieder, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, Fed Board Member Christopher Waller, and former Fed governor Kevin Warsh.

Global markets have turned their eyes to who will be appointed to this position, which will be influential in the management of US monetary policy.
