Trump's new tariff plan

U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled that he will add new tariffs to the many he has already imposed on numerous countries since taking office on January 20.

In a statement, Trump said he plans to announce reciprocal tariffs on many countries next week and that the additional taxes could help reduce the country's budget deficit. Trump did not specify which countries would be subject to the tariffs.

On Sunday, Trump signed an executive order to impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10 percent tariff on imports from China. On Monday, Trump suspended the 25 percent tariff decision on Mexico and Canada for 30 days in exchange for strict measures being taken against migration and drug trafficking.

Canada had agreed to deploy new technology and personnel to the U.S. border and to cooperate in the fight against organized crime, fentanyl trafficking, and money laundering.

Mexico, meanwhile, had announced that it would deploy 10 thousand National Guard troops to the U.S. border to prevent illegal migration and the flow of drugs.
