Turkey and the UK to meet in Ankara today: Syria negotiations begin

According to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, British and Turkish officials will meet in Ankara tomorrow to exchange views on the situation in Syria. It was learned that Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nuh Yılmaz and the UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, will co-chair the talks. The statement indicated that representatives from the two countries will exchange views on regional issues, primarily Syria.

Turkey is expected to convey its views and expectations regarding Syria's security, stability, and economic situation. Furthermore, topics such as achieving national reconciliation in Syria and the lifting of sanctions will also be on the agenda.

During the talks, the importance of international support for steps to be taken toward establishing a central government in Syria and achieving national reconciliation will be emphasized. There are plans to focus on the necessity of lifting sanctions unconditionally for the reconstruction and economic development of Syria.

Stating that there is no place for terrorism in Syria's future, Turkey will express that the fight against terrorist organizations in the region must continue. Additionally, a call will be made for an end to Israel's actions that violate Syria's sovereignty.

Representatives of the two countries will discuss the importance of regional cooperation to ensure stability in Syria. Turkey will emphasize the need to protect Syria's territorial integrity and support the political resolution process. The UK, meanwhile, is expected to present its solution proposals for alleviating the humanitarian crisis in the region and improving the situation of refugees.
