Turkish citizen shopping with 20 euros detained at a store in France

In an incident that took place at the Galeries Lafayette store in the Westfield Shopping Center in Lyon, France, a Turkish expatriate woman handed over a 20-euro banknote at the checkout after completing her shopping. When the cashier noticed that the money provided was counterfeit, security personnel were notified and the process began.

The young woman was taken to the store's staff area shortly after, where she had to wait for police teams to arrive. The victim, who remained in the surveillance room for approximately 1.5 hours, expressed the anxiety she felt with the phrase "it could happen to anyone."

After the police arrived, the individual's person and bag were searched. The investigation revealed that the counterfeit money was not used intentionally by the young woman, and no criminal element was found. As a result of the incident, she was released without receiving any penalty.

Experts emphasize that 20 and 50-euro banknotes are frequently preferred for counterfeiting, and state that those who will make cash purchases abroad should always carefully check the money they receive. To avoid becoming a victim of counterfeit money, it is recommended to always check the reliability of banknotes before spending them.
