UK announces most comprehensive sanctions package against Russia
The United Kingdom has prepared a package of nearly 300 new sanctions targeting Russia's energy revenues.
As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, the UK has announced the most comprehensive sanctions package it has implemented against Russia to date. In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, it was reported that this latest move directly targets the country's critical sectors, including oil and natural gas.
RESTRICTIONS ON 48 OIL TANKERS AND 175 COMPANIES
At the center of the sanctions is PJSC Transneft, one of the world's leading oil pipeline companies, which transports a significant portion of Russia's oil exports. Additionally, 175 companies and 48 oil tankers within the oil chain belonging to 2Rivers, known as a shadow fleet operator, have been included in the list of restrictions.
The statement noted that international sanctions have caused a total loss of over 450 billion dollars to the Russian economy to date. The new sanctions also include the names of 49 entities and individuals, including international companies that supply unmanned aerial vehicles, spare parts, and advanced technology to Russia.
In addition, Russia's liquefied natural gas sector, along with 9 banks that facilitate cross-border payments in the country, have been brought under the scope of the sanctions decisions.
With these new measures, the United Kingdom has begun implementing approximately 300 new sanctions against Russia across various fields.
