UK expresses concern over Israel
As the world awaits the next move from Israel following the breakdown of ceasefire talks with Hamas, the UK has announced it is concerned about the possibility of an Israeli military offensive in Rafah.
A statement from the UK Foreign Office said, "We are deeply concerned about the prospect of an Israeli military offensive in Rafah, in the south of Gaza."
Responding to a question on the matter, a UK Foreign Office spokesperson stated, "We are deeply concerned about the prospect of a military offensive in Rafah, where half of Gaza's population is sheltering and which is home to the Rafah border crossing, which is vital for getting aid to those in need."
"WORK MUST BE DONE FOR A SUSTAINABLE CEASEFIRE"
The spokesperson noted that the priority in Gaza should be an immediate humanitarian pause in the fighting, the entry of aid into the region, the release of hostages, and working toward a sustainable, permanent ceasefire.
Addressing Israel, the spokesperson said, "Too many civilians have lost their lives in this conflict. All parties must respect international humanitarian law. We want Israel to limit its operations to military targets and to take greater care to avoid harming civilians and destroying homes."
