UK Foreign Secretary Lammy: The UK strongly opposes Israel's plans
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has reacted to the announcement by far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich that he would approve plans for an illegal settlement known as "E1" in East Jerusalem, stating, "The UK strongly opposes the Israeli government's E1 settlement plans, which would bisect a future Palestinian state."
The UK has reacted to the announcement by far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich yesterday that he plans to approve the "E1" project, which would expand illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that Israel's plans to develop a settlement that would divide the West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem constitute a violation of international law and must be stopped immediately.
Lammy said, "The UK strongly opposes the Israeli government's E1 settlement plans, which would bisect a future Palestinian state and constitute a clear violation of international law. These plans must be stopped immediately."
Israel plans to build 3,401 illegal housing units as part of the "E1" project, which aims to separate areas in the West Bank from one another and cut Jerusalem off from Palestinian territory on all sides.
