UK: If Russia is not defeated, all our borders will be much less secure

A high-level session was held at the UN Security Council regarding developments in Ukraine.

Speaking at the session, Lammy said that if Russian President Vladimir Putin succeeds, a world would emerge where the articles of the UN Charter lose their meaning.

Noting that Putin's success would inspire others' desires for "imperialist war," Lammy stated, "If Putin is not defeated, all our borders will be much less secure."

Lammy said that by targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Putin is trying to "plunge Ukraine into darkness."

Stating that Russia has lost a large number of soldiers in the 1000-day war in Ukraine and has therefore turned to receiving support from North Korea in the form of troops and from Iran in the form of ballistic missiles, Lammy said, "These actions must be met with a strong response."

Lammy recalled that the UK has therefore decided to impose sanctions on the Iranian national airline Iran Air and the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).

Stating that "Putin only responds to power," Lammy emphasized the need to act strongly and in unity for lasting peace and security.

Lammy said, "My message to Putin today is simple. We will challenge Russia's aggression at every opportunity."

"RUSSIA'S NORTH KOREA MOVE IS UNPRECEDENTED"

US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield pointed out that the Ukrainian people have not given up for 1000 days.

Stating that as winter approaches, Russia is destroying Ukraine's essential infrastructure with attacks, Greenfield noted that millions of homes are without water and heating.

Recalling that Russia today vetoed a draft resolution aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid to Sudan, Greenfield said, "We have heard the Russians express support for the Palestinian people, but this is nothing more than hypocrisy and lies."

Regarding the support of North Korean troops for Russia, Greenfield said, "Such a move is unprecedented."

Greenfield stated that this also violates many UNSC resolutions, adding, "These activities are the activities of a rogue state. Russia is trying very hard to legitimize them and is lying."

Arguing that Putin has never accepted Ukraine, which is also a UN member, as an independent state, Greenfield said that for this reason, he also underestimates the determination of the Ukrainian people.

Greenfield announced that the US will announce new security support for Ukraine in the coming days.

Stating that support for Ukraine is not a "partisan" issue, Greenfield noted that upholding democracy and human rights is more important than simple politics and will not be left to the initiative of a single leader.
