UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that they are ready to provide support following the earthquakes in Japan.

In a statement from the UK Prime Minister's Office at 10 Downing Street, Sunak said, "My thoughts are with everyone affected by the earthquakes in Japan, which have caused significant damage."

In his statement, in which he noted that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is an important friend of the UK, Sunak added, "We are ready to support Japan and are monitoring the situation closely. British nationals in the affected area should follow the advice of Japanese authorities."

SUCCESSIVE EARTHQUAKES OCCURRED

Successive earthquakes occurred throughout the day yesterday in Ishikawa Prefecture in the west of the country and along the coast of the Noto Peninsula in the same region.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), over 10 earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 5 to 7.6 occurred in the region within a 2-hour period.
