UK Prime Minister Starmer's 'Israel' request to Pezeshkian

According to a statement from the UK Prime Minister's Office at 10 Downing Street, Starmer expressed his concern over developments in the Middle East during his phone call with Pezeshkian.

Calling on all parties to de-escalate tensions and prevent a region-wide conflict, Starmer stated that it is time for calm and careful consideration.

Inviting Iran to refrain from attacking Israel, Starmer noted that war is in no one's interest.

Recalling his calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and an increase in humanitarian aid to the region, Starmer emphasized the importance of diplomatic initiatives to achieve these goals.

Touching upon the situation of foreign prisoners in Iran, Starmer noted that it must be ensured they receive the necessary medical support.

The two leaders agreed that a constructive dialogue between the UK and Iran is in the interest of both countries.

Starmer underscored that such a constructive dialogue could only be established if Iran ends its actions in the Middle East, the Iranian threats against certain individuals in the UK are eliminated, and support for Russia is ceased.
