Ukraine denies claim that 'Kupyansk has been captured'
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has denied the statement by Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov claiming that the Russian army had captured the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region.
In a written statement released on the General Staff's social media account, it was reported that the city of Kupyansk remains under Ukrainian control.
Asserting that Gerasimov's statement does not reflect the truth, the statement said, "The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that Kupyansk is under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces."
The statement provided information that an "operation" is being conducted against members of the Russian army attempting to enter Kupyansk and its surrounding settlements, while also refuting the information shared by Russian Chief of General Staff Gerasimov regarding the control of the majority of the cities of Vovchansk and Pokrovsk, as well as the capture of the settlement of Yampil.
RUSSIAN CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF GERASIMOV: WE HAVE CAPTURED KUPYANSK
In a written statement from the Kremlin, it was announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had visited a command post belonging to the "West" military unit involved in the war in Ukraine.
Russian Chief of General Staff Gerasimov, in his statement there, noted that they had taken control of 80 percent of the city of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region and 70 percent of the city of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), stating, "Units of the West group have liberated the city of Kupyansk."
Other military officials attending the meeting also took the floor and reported that the Russian army had captured the settlements of Yampil and Maslyukivka.
