Speaking about the decision, Zelensky said, "The time for a change has come. We discussed what kind of renewal the Armed Forces of Ukraine need. We also discussed who could be part of the renewed leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The time for this renewal is now." Zelensky also stated that he wants the dismissed Zaluzhnyi to continue to be part of the war team.
