Ukrainian President Zelensky: 'We have invited Trump to Istanbul'

Ukrainian leader Zelensky announced that he will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara on Thursday. Following this meeting, he stated that if Russian President Vladimir Putin comes to Istanbul, he will also be there. Zelensky announced that they have also invited former US President Donald Trump to the summit in Istanbul, but added that Trump's participation has not yet been confirmed.

Zelensky stated that the planned talks could change the course of the war. Saying, 'If Putin comes to Istanbul, I will be there too,' Zelensky emphasized that peace cannot be achieved without direct contact.

'HE IS THE ONLY PERSON WITH THE POWER TO IMPLEMENT IT'

The Ukrainian President stated that he hopes the most important outcome of the talks in Istanbul will be a ceasefire agreement. Saying that a ceasefire must be negotiated directly with Putin, Zelensky said, 'It only makes sense to talk about this issue with Putin because he is the only person with the power to implement it.'

Arguing that if the talks fail, it would show that Russia is not ready for diplomacy, Zelensky stated that they expect the US and the European Union to announce strong sanctions against Russia in that event.

Furthermore, noting that they have received signals from China that it could support a 30-day ceasefire, Zelensky said that such support is an important development for global diplomacy, especially during a period when contacts with Western countries have intensified.
