UN announces: "30 percent of housing in Gaza destroyed or uninhabitable"

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq spoke about developments in Gaza during his daily press briefing.

Pointing out that rescue teams have been unable to perform their duties due to ongoing airstrikes, according to information obtained from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Haq stated that hospitals are also overflowing.

Stating that approximately 9 thousand cancer patients are unable to receive treatment, Haq shared the information that "30 percent of housing units in Gaza have been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable since October 7."

Haq also shared information that, according to UN Women, 490 thousand women and girls have been displaced, and approximately 900 women have been widowed after losing their husbands.

Regarding Israel's attack on the Greek Orthodox Church in the Gaza Strip, where displaced people were sheltering, Haq said, "We condemn all attacks against civilians. According to the UN, all holy sites are off-limits."

On the other hand, a written statement from OCHA noted that 14 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the West Bank.
