UN responds with 'law' after Israel targets hospital

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, at his daily press briefing, responded to an AA correspondent who stated, "The World Health Organization has declared Al-Shifa Hospital as one of the largest health facilities in Gaza. It is seen that the hospital is full of wounded civilians, cancer patients, and babies, with people even spilling over into the hospital's courtyard and stairs."

Emphasizing that the health facility in question is not a hospital managed by the UN, Dujarric stated that they are not in a position to verify Israel's claims.

Dujarric said, "As we have stated many times before, any attack on health facilities would be a violation of international humanitarian law."

ISRAELI ARMY HAD TARGETED THE HOSPITAL

The Israeli army had targeted Al-Shifa Hospital, where thousands of wounded and displaced civilians have taken refuge in the Gaza Strip, where the blockade has been tightened and the humanitarian crisis has deepened.

Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari, in a press conference held in the evening, claimed that Hamas was launching attacks from Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip, and asserted that hospitals "lose their protection status under international law when used for terrorist purposes."

The spokesperson had alleged that certain audio recordings and graphics drawn by the army proved that the hospital was being used as a base by Hamas.
