US announces it shot down 'one-way attack drones'

A message regarding the matter was shared on CENTCOM's X social media account. The message stated that the guided-missile destroyer "USS Arleigh Burke" detected a wave of UAVs from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in the early hours of the morning.

Noting that the UAVs were identified as one-way attack vehicles, the message stated, "14 UAVs were successfully shot down. It was determined that there was no damage to ships in the area and no injuries were reported."

The message indicated that regional partners were informed about the threat.

HOUTHIS TARGET ISRAELI SHIPS IN THE RED SEA

The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen announced on December 12 that they had targeted a Norwegian oil tanker heading to Israel that did not respond to warnings.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had announced that a ship targeted in the Red Sea and its crew were safe.

In a televised speech on November 14, the leader of the Houthis in Yemen, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, threatened that they could target Israeli ships in the Red Sea.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced in a statement on his X social media account on November 19 that they would target any ship flying the Israeli flag in response to Israel's attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Subsequently, the Houthis carried out UAV and missile attacks on two Israeli ships, the "Unity Explorer" and "Number Nine," in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Israeli shipping company ZIM also stated in a statement on November 29 that its ships would not use the Suez Canal in Egypt, citing the security situation in the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea.

CENTCOM, on the other hand, announced on the X social media platform on December 4 that 4 attacks had been carried out on 3 commercial ships in international waters in the southern Red Sea.

The statement, which reported that the US Navy destroyer "USS Carney" responded to distress calls from commercial ships in the southern Red Sea, stated that the destroyer shot down 3 UAVs that were heading toward it while assisting the ships.
