US Food and Drug Administration: Traces of bird flu found in one in five commercial milk samples tested

The FDA has shared the results of its nationwide testing of commercial milk samples.

In a written statement on the matter, it was noted that testing is ongoing and, according to initial results, traces of bird flu were found in one out of every five commercial milk samples analyzed.

The statement indicated that despite the results, there is no evidence that commercial milk poses a danger or contains live virus, but that additional testing is required.

WARNING REGARDING HEATING

In its statement earlier this week, the FDA explained that heating milk to a certain temperature kills harmful bacteria and viruses, making it safe for human consumption.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA), meanwhile, asserted that the commercial milk supply remains safe due to the pasteurization process and the disposal of milk obtained from sick cows.

According to the USDA, while bird flu cases have been observed in 33 herds across 8 states in the US, only one human case of bird flu has been detected, in the state of Texas.
