US intelligence: Russia is working for Trump to win the presidential election

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), an unnamed official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence briefed the press on attempts to interfere in the US presidential election.

The official alleged that Russia is attempting to interfere in the US presidential election through propaganda on social media and the internet, similar to its actions in the 2016 and 2020 elections, and is making intense efforts to support Trump in the election.

The official argued that Moscow's activities detected so far in this election process include the hacking and leaking of Democratic Party emails and certain actions aimed at undermining the campaign of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in previous elections, though they noted that Russia's interference attempts are not currently at the same scale or scope as in 2016.

Stating that Russia is targeting specific voter demographics to encourage divisive rhetoric and attempting to smear certain politicians, the official also claimed that Iran has increased its efforts in this direction and has been covertly supporting protests against the war in Gaza in recent weeks.

The official stated, "We have not observed a change in Russia's preferences for the presidential race compared to past elections," suggesting that, as in previous elections, Moscow prefers Trump to win.

US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, in a statement to the press yesterday, claimed that individuals linked to the Iranian government have been posing as activists on online platforms, attempting to encourage protests, and providing financial support to protesters.

Noting that the activities observed so far do not include attempts to disrupt election procedures, the officials argued that it is likely that the efforts of Moscow and other countries will increase as the election date approaches.

CHINA HAS NOT ATTEMPTED INTERFERENCE

The US intelligence official noted that China, on the other hand, is not attempting to interfere in the US elections.

The official emphasized that China, not wanting to face the kind of reaction Russia encountered after the 2016 elections, has sent a message to its diplomats to avoid even discussing their preferences between the candidates.
