US issues warning to Cuba and Iran following operation in Venezuela
As the repercussions of the US-led attacks in Venezuela continue, Senator Lindsey Graham has issued messages of concern directed at Cuba and Iran.
Following the military operations in Venezuela, US Senator Lindsey Graham stated that the leaders of Cuba and Iran should be concerned about the situation. In an interview with Axios, Graham made remarks regarding the actions taken against Venezuela and their potential consequences.
Senator Graham noted that he had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump prior to the operation. Stating that "The President was very clear that the drug caliphate in our backyard needs to be dismantled," Graham mentioned that the plan had been in preparation for several weeks.
In the same interview, Graham emphasized that it is natural for the Cuban and Iranian administrations to be uneasy about the developments, saying, "There is a new sheriff in town. He is enforcing the Monroe Doctrine. If I were the leader of Iran, I would go to the mosque and pray."
Stating that what is happening in Venezuela is the "beginning of a liberation process," the Senator noted that the US considers the successful completion of this process important for its own interests, adding, "We are going to give people a chance to have a new beginning."
When asked about the possibility of further operations in Venezuela in the coming period, Graham responded by saying, "All options are on the table."
Regarding the explosions that recently occurred in the capital, Caracas, the Venezuelan government held the US directly responsible, and President Nicolas Maduro declared a "state of emergency due to foreign interference" across the country. US President Trump, detailing the operations, had announced that President Maduro and his wife had been captured and removed from the country.
