US President Trump establishes commission on religious freedom
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a commission on religious freedom, stating, "We are bringing religion back to our country."
US President Trump spoke at a signing ceremony held in the White House garden, attended by Christian, Jewish, and Muslim clergy.
Stating that American religious values hold the most important place within the social structure, Trump said that he is bringing religion back to the White House.
Trump said, "Nothing like this has ever been done at the White House before. No other president has allowed this. They say that church and state affairs should be separated. However, whether there is a separation or not, you are currently in the place where you should be, in the White House. We are bringing religion back to our country, and this is an important issue."
Donald Trump stated that with the commission on religious freedom to be established by presidential decree, they have taken an important step toward ensuring that all religions in the US can be practiced freely, while also specifically combating antisemitism.
Following the US President's speech, a Christian, a Jewish, and a Muslim clergyman came to the podium and offered prayers.
The American Muslim clergyman, whom Trump invited to the podium by the name "Imam Habesh," offered a prayer that included "national and global peace."
Afterward, Trump signed the presidential decree at the table prepared for the event, stating that the commission on religious freedom is an important step for America.
