US President Trump has chosen his successor

US President Donald Trump has announced that Vice President JD Vance could “probably” be his successor and the political heir to the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement. This statement comes during a period in which Trump has hinted for the third time that he “might not run again.”

Explicitly mentioning Vance by name, Trump said, “Of course, it is still too early to talk about this, but he is certainly doing a great job, and he would probably be the favorite candidate right now.” Although he used cautious language in his statement, it was the first time he had pointed to the future with such clarity regarding Vance.

RUBIO ALSO ADDED TO THE EQUATION

Following Vice President Vance, Trump also included Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the potential candidacy equation. “I think Marco is also someone who could come together with JD under certain conditions,” said Trump, implying that the two could cooperate. He praised the strong figures within the party with the words, “We have excellent people.”

RUBIO IS CAUTIOUS FOR NOW

Marco Rubio continues to maintain his silence regarding a 2028 candidacy. In a statement he made last month, Rubio, who said that JD Vance “would be a great candidate,” stated, “He is a close friend of mine, and I hope he considers doing it. However, I know it is a bit early for that.”

Rubio also did not fully close the door on his own candidacy. By saying, “You never know what the future will bring,” he did not completely rule out the possibility of entering the race in 2028.

TRUMP HAD PREVIOUSLY AVOIDED NAMING A SUCCESSOR

Trump had previously firmly refused to name a successor for the 2028 elections. In a statement he made in February, he had noted that Vance was a “very talented” person but expressed that it was too early to officially nominate him.
