US to return 8.9 million dollars

According to reports in the national press, Attorney General Mark Temple at the Royal Court in the US stated that he had seized 8.9 million dollars deposited into a bank account in Jersey by Nigerian companies in 2014.

Stating that the funds in question belong to Nigeria, Temple noted that the money was smuggled out of Nigeria by high-level officials in certain units of the country at that time for the purpose of acquiring property abroad.

DECISION MADE TO BEGIN NEGOTIATIONS

Temple decided to begin negotiations with the Nigerian government for the return of these funds that were smuggled out of Nigeria.

It is alleged that during the term of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria, the money transfers were camouflaged as government-approved contracts for arms purchases during Boko Haram's attacks in the country between 2009 and 2015.
