From the US to Saudi Arabia: 'No defense agreement without normalization with Israel'

Relations between Gulf countries and Israel are deteriorating due to the attacks on the Gaza Strip. The US, Tel Aviv's biggest supporter, is using all the cards it has to change this situation.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan sent a message regarding "Israel" to the Gulf country Saudi Arabia in an interview with the British Financial Times newspaper.

Sullivan stated that Washington would not accept a defense agreement with Riyadh unless there is a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Sullivan said, "If you look at it holistically, the condition for a bilateral agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia is normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia and taking meaningful steps on behalf of the Palestinian people. These all have to come together. You cannot separate one piece from the other."

Stating that more statements may come from him and US President Joe Biden in the coming months, Sullivan said, "The only thing we can do is work on a path that we think makes sense, get many countries in the region on that path, and then present that path. Ultimately, this will be up to the Israeli government. The Israeli people will also decide whether or not to choose this path."
