US Vice President Harris sets two-state solution as condition for peace

The 60th Munich Security Conference, held in Germany, continues. Speaking at the conference, US Vice President Kamala Harris stated that they are determined to maintain global engagement to protect international rules and norms and to defend democratic values both at home and abroad, adding, "We will work with our allies and partners toward our common goals." 

Harris emphasized that the idea of the US isolating itself from the world, embracing dictators, and abandoning its commitments to its allies is a dangerous, destabilizing, and narrow worldview.

"ISRAEL MUST DO BETTER"

Stating that the Biden administration is determined in its stance regarding the war in the Gaza Strip, Harris expressed that the US is working to end the conflict in a way that ensures the release of hostages as soon as possible, resolves the humanitarian crisis, and allows Palestinians to enjoy their rights to security, dignity, and self-determination.

Saying that she understands Israel's right to defend itself but that how it does so matters, Harris emphasized that the US administration is clear about the fact that a large number of innocent Palestinians have been killed and that Israel must do better to protect civilians.

Noting that they see what is happening in the images published every day regarding the suffering of people and the need for humanitarian aid, Harris said, "The President, our administration, and I are very determined to ensure this humanitarian aid is provided."

Emphasizing that after the release of the hostages, Israel should not reoccupy the Gaza Strip and that the Palestinian Authority should lead the form of governance in Gaza, Harris stated, "In my view, without a two-state solution, there can be no peace and security for the region, for the people of Israel, or for the Palestinians and the people of Gaza."

"OUR SACRED COMMITMENT TO NATO CONTINUES"

Defending the Biden administration's approach to global issues, particularly its leadership in international support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, Harris addressed opposing views, saying, "Let me be clear. This worldview is dangerous, destabilizing, and indeed short-sighted.

This view would weaken the US and undermine global stability and global prosperity. That is why Biden and I reject this view."

Touching upon the statements made by former US President Donald Trump regarding NATO allies, Harris said, "Imagine the US turning its back on Ukraine, abandoning our NATO allies, and walking away from our treaty commitments. Imagine not only emboldening Putin but being soft on him," emphasizing that the Biden administration's sacred commitment to NATO remains unshakable.
