US Vice President Vance in Switzerland for peace talks with Iran

The world's eyes will be on the US-Iran negotiations to be held in Switzerland today. US Vice President James David Vance has arrived in Switzerland to participate in peace negotiations with Iran. The plane carrying Vance landed at Emmen Air Base at 05:59 local time. In addition to JD Vance, the US delegation participating in the peace talks will include US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Before departing for Switzerland, JD Vance told reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, "I think we will make progress on the nuclear issue and the ceasefire issue in Lebanon. In my opinion, these will be the two major topics we will focus on." Stating that the negotiations would last "a few days," the US Vice President said he would stay in Switzerland for "one or two days." Vance emphasized that the goal of the first round of negotiations is to "establish the actual structure and process of the negotiations." JD Vance also noted that after the first round of high-level talks is completed, technical-level working meetings that could continue in Switzerland will be held.

Ghalibaf leads the Iranian delegation

According to Iranian media reports, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is leading the Iranian delegation. The delegation also includes high-level figures such as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Bagheri, and Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, who will participate in the negotiations between the US and Iran, have also arrived in Switzerland. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is also expected to attend the talks.

Hormuz claim

Although the US and Iran had agreed on a 60-day ceasefire while the negotiations were ongoing, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced yesterday that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed due to Israel's attacks on Lebanon. US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Tim Hawkins denied the claims regarding the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the strait remains open. Hawkins said, "Maritime traffic continues to flow, and US forces continue to monitor developments to ensure that the situation remains this way."
