US: We need Hamas to participate in negotiations
US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby, in a statement regarding the Gaza Strip ceasefire negotiations that began yesterday in the Egyptian capital Cairo, emphasized that Hamas must also participate in the talks, which include negotiators from Israel, the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
Negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement in the Gaza Strip are continuing under the mediation of the US, Egypt, and Qatar. The negotiations, which were held in the Qatari capital Doha last week, began yesterday in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby, in his remarks to reporters regarding the negotiations, said that the talks were “constructive” and that some progress had been made. Emphasizing that all parties must come together to implement the proposed agreement, Kirby stated that Hamas must also participate in the talks, which include negotiators from Israel, the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
Kirby said, “We are here. They are in Cairo. We need Hamas to participate in the talks and to dig into the details of the impasse. We will be focusing on this over the coming days and throughout the weekend.”
"EGYPT AND QATAR WILL CONVEY A NEW PROPOSAL TO HAMAS"
According to a report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Egypt and Qatar will convey to Hamas a new proposal regarding the Philadelphi Corridor and the Rafah border crossing, which was presented yesterday in Cairo by the Israeli foreign intelligence agency MOSSAD and the internal security service Shin Bet.
The newspaper, citing an Israeli source, stated that this move signals “relative progress.”
Haaretz also reported an Israeli source as saying, “The inter-delegation meeting held in Cairo on Thursday was constructive. It closed the gaps between Egypt and Israel regarding the Philadelphi Corridor. Now we are waiting for Hamas's position.”
