An armed attacker panic occurred at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the US state of Massachusetts. An individual seen carrying a weapon, who was captured on students' cameras near the Riverview Suites dormitory on the south campus around 14:30, alarmed the university administration.

Following the report, a large number of police were dispatched to the scene, and at approximately 15:00, a "shelter-in-place" warning was issued to thousands of students at the university. Police launched a large-scale operation to find an Asian male suspect, approximately 1.65 meters tall, wearing a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts.

Within the scope of the security measures taken, students at some schools in the Lowell area were also kept in their classrooms, and there were disruptions to bus services.

"THE IMAGE SHARED ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS REAL"

Making a statement after the search efforts that lasted about 2 and a half hours, Lowell Police Chief Ron Dickerson confirmed that the image shared on social media was real, stating, "Our security cameras also recorded the same image."

Despite this, Dickerson stated that no suspect who could be considered an "active shooter" was found on campus, and added that there was no evidence that a weapon had been fired.

While the "shelter-in-place" warning issued to students was lifted around 17:30, it was reported that the police would continue security measures on and around the campus throughout the night.
