Here Is Donald Trump's First Week in the Presidency

In the first hours after taking office, the new President issued pardons for 1,600 people who attacked the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. Among those pardoned are leaders of neo-Nazi groups. 

Most of these people (who were convicted for the Capitol riot) had gathered in the area after Trump said, 'you go to the Capitol building, and I will come too.' When the events escalated, Trump had appeared before the cameras and called on people to 'return home.'

Trump also pardoned 2 former police officers who were convicted for killing a Black man.

The President also announced that he had pardoned Ross Ulbricht, who is well-known to those interested in crypto markets. Ulbricht is known as the founder of the illegal trade network on the dark web. Ulbricht's release is considered a 'clear indicator' of Trump's support for crypto markets.

Joe Biden, who handed over the presidency to Donald Trump, warned the American public and the world against the rising 'techno-industrial complex' in his farewell speech; Biden stated that democracy is under threat.

While Biden's statements did not attract much attention, the greatest support for Trump came from technology billionaires. Among those who attended Trump's inauguration were names such as Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and the world's richest person, Elon Musk.

While Donald Trump encouraged his supporters with his victory speech, the person most affected by the speech was Elon Musk. Musk, who took the podium at the inauguration ceremony held on Tuesday, could not contain himself after dancing for a while and gave a 'Nazi salute.' 

These names who attended the inauguration ceremony could be of critical importance in terms of Trump's 'transformation' promises.

The 'great transformation' planned by the new president is not limited to just economy and politics.

In the 'Project 2025' agenda he announced before taking office, Trump had said that he wanted to 'transform' America both politically and culturally.

In the Project 2025 agenda, Trump and his team advocated ideas such as: the state should be downsized; God created only two genders as male and female; 'globalism' harms the world; and the climate crisis is a lie.

Trump's first-week decisions show that Project 2025 began to be implemented as soon as the new president took office.

According to the decisions Trump made in his first week, the US: withdrew from the Paris climate agreement and all its agreements with the World Health Organization; the definition of transgender individuals was removed from military regulations; all civil servants working in the diversity, equity, and inclusion program were placed on paid leave.

Trump also decided to invest in the artificial intelligence industry. According to the decision, the United States will support the artificial intelligence industry with a budget of 500 billion dollars consisting of private company incentives. Furthermore, Trump reiterated his promise to reduce oversight on pharmaceutical companies.

President Trump, who is also known for his nationalist rhetoric, had announced that he would rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. On Trump's first day in the Oval Office, a document signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis referred to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

However, Trump's nationalist rhetoric was not limited to just the Gulf of Mexico. A few weeks before taking office, Trump had announced that he wanted to include Canada and Greenland in American territory.

As soon as Trump and his team took office, they began to voice their demands regarding Canada and Greenland again. Although the Trump administration has not yet taken a concrete step on this issue, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede has made the statement 'we do not want to be American' twice so far.

European countries, on the other hand, reacted to these 'expansionist' rhetorics of Trump. French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to 'wake up' in a statement he made one day after Trump's inauguration. Macron emphasized that Europe should not continue its dependence on America in the field of defense.

The US President, instead of responding to Macron, announced that he would impose additional customs duties on Mexico and Canada. Trump also demanded that NATO member countries allocate 5 percent of their budgets for collective defense.

If Trump's additional customs duty policies are implemented, Chinese companies exporting to America via Canada and Mexico could be in a difficult situation.

Trump, who advocates economic policies that can be described as 'protectionist,' wants to bring American companies producing abroad back to the country by imposing additional taxes.

However, it is still very difficult to predict the net results of the economic policies Trump advocates. Some experts state that if Trump implements these policies, the American economy could face the 'danger of inflation.'

If Trump implements a low-tax policy domestically and reduces controls on companies, this could trigger a 'consumption frenzy' in America.

The act of Trump that will most affect the American public in the near term was the cancellation of the 'diversity, equity, and inclusion' executive order that went into effect in 1965. 

The Trump administration first placed everyone working in the 'equal opportunity' programs called DEI, which arose from this executive order, on mandatory leave. They sent messages to state employees, asking them to report 'secret DEI programs.' In the messages sent with the signatures of ministers from the Trump cabinet, it was written to employees who do not cooperate, 'if you do not provide information, there will be serious consequences for you.' There has been no statement from the White House on this matter yet.

Another one of the most important developments of the week was the Trump administration taking action against immigrants. Trump, who wants to send illegal immigrants out of the country, took a series of decisions in this direction. Police officers, acting in line with Trump's decisions, went on a hunt for illegal immigrants in New Jersey. The police, who raided a workplace in the city, detained some American citizens along with immigrants. Approximately 500 people were arrested in the raid.

Despite all these developments, the first judicial obstacle to Trump's decisions also came on the day. The US President had signed an executive order that would prevent passports from being given to children of foreigners born in America. A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order on Trump's executive order. A significant portion of the decisions Trump has made may face judicial obstacles in the coming weeks.
