Regime toppled in Syria, thousands of prisoners flee from jails

The Bashar al-Assad regime collapsed after losing control as protesters entered key locations in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Following the flight of Assad and his inner circle from the country, prisoners at the Sednaya Prison, which was synonymous with the regime and known for its torture, were also rescued by protesters who stormed the facility.

PRISONERS RELEASED

Anti-Assad regime armed groups in Syria's Hama province have captured the city center of Hama.

As a result of the Hama Prison in the city being taken under control by anti-regime forces, nearly 3,000 inmates were released.

SOME HAD BEEN HELD IN DUNGEONS FOR 40 YEARS

It was reported that some of the prisoners had been held in dungeons by the regime for nearly 40 years. The Hama Prison, which was captured by anti-Assad regime opposition forces, was filmed after being emptied.

The joy of the prisoners running out of the emptied jails was captured on camera. The moment a prisoner asked a citizen filming him, "I have been in prison for 10 years. What happened?" and his subsequent joy upon learning that the regime had fallen, drew attention.
